A good breakdown however the story for me is how the conservatives secured traditional NDP working class ridings like New Westminster and in the 905. Liberals need to take heed, if they lose touch with the working man like the Democrats have in the US they could be in for a rough ride in the future.

New West went Liberal, not Conservative.

But also, the NDP doesn't represent workers anymore (although it likes to think it does). The Liberals and Conservative parties have captured the hopes of many working-class voters in the suburbs of Canada, mainly because they're the only parties to offer any vision that resonates.

Guess I should have checked that today. It was conservative last night when I signed off. Both parties well ahead of Peter Julian though, and that’s still remarkable.

I'm not convinced past NDP supporters voted Liberal for his vision but rather out of fear of a Conservative majority. It was strategic.

If anything, the tightening of the race in the final week suggests Carney's vision wasn't landing and a longer campaign (or fewer advance ballots) might have delivered a very different result.

What remains to be seen is what he does with government now.

My point around vision includes the contrast between Carney Liberals and Poulievre Conservatives. His vision represented a contrast from the angry and resentful politics of the Conservatives. It's still a vision, even if it includes fear of the alternative.

The tightening could also be due to undecided voters making a choice, with some choosing the Conservatives out of a feeling that the Liberals haven't meaningfully addressed or credibly will address their priority issues, like reducing the cost of living and housing costs.

I suspect we'll see a smarter Liberal government with a renewed sense of focus and structure, led by a Prime Minister who is significantly more intelligent and focused than his predecessor on the central issue they should be focused on: our Canadian economy.
